FAQs
Answers to common questions about LAB.
What is Lubbock Art Builders?
Lubbock Art Builders (LAB) is a 501(c)(3) organization created by Lubbock community members in 2021. Our founding members are experienced scenic designers and builders, and our mission is to provide facility to artists and artisans in West Texas.
Who do you work with?
We provide professional production support to local school productions of theater shows, musicals, and band performances. Our 2024–2025 schedule included productions at Coronado, Estacado, Monterey, and Lubbock Cooper high schools. We’ve also built for Laura Bush Middle School and Bards & Brews at LHUCA.
What does production support include?
Each production follows a six-week schedule: building, loading into the performance space, lighting equipment hang and focus, scenery painting and completion, production week work calls, the performance run, strike of all properties, and theater restore.
What is a “Learn and Work” call?
Each production includes three Learn and Work calls with students and their families. Students learn safety in the shop and theater on power tools, moving properties, proper stage calls, and practical math like load calculations — and together they build a piece of scenery, costume, or similar element that plays in their production.
